Statement of New York State Senator
Thomas K. Duane on the Death of Rodger McFarlane

May 18, 2009

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rodger McFarlane, one of the pioneers and great leaders in the LGBT movement and the fight against HIV/AIDS. We have lost a relentless advocate, a nimble mind and an extraordinary human being. Rodger's contributions to the lives of LGBT people and of those who have HIV/AIDS cannot be understated; his dedication to his work is one the reasons that I am a State Senator today. While there are thousands who are bereaved because of this loss, we can take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain. I am grateful to Rodger for all that he gave and the long legacy he leaves.
